Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. Then, in 1992 she was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
