Through the years, her people were motivated to do their best to ensure that Selena's successes would not fade away. Selena's shooting death sparked emotions in the Latino society that could be similar in a way to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly loved Latino artist throughout North America. Her music transcended boundaries and touched the hearts of both young people and older adults. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes referred to by her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
